Herne Hill

When the owners first bought this semi-detached Victorian house in North Dulwich, it was in a sorry state: there was no heating, and the kitchen was tucked into a top-floor bedroom.

From the very beginning, we reimagined the home to create a space that celebrates its original character while introducing carefully considered, contemporary interventions. A new downstairs kitchen, inspired by Victorian glasshouses, became the heart of the home, with rough-sawn wood cabinetry, exposed beams, and Crittall doors that add a subtle industrial edge.

At the top, a bespoke study with wrap-around windows was introduced, and a beautifully paneled ensuite brings hand-finished detail to the upper floors. Original features were celebrated and extended throughout, with coving, ceiling roses, and fireplaces thoughtfully sourced to complement the period of the house. Handmade taps and carefully chosen lighting—reclaimed where possible or designed in keeping with the home’s character—reinforce the artisanal quality of the interiors.

Textured plaster walls, layered furniture, and a curated mix of reclaimed, antique, and contemporary pieces give the house warmth, depth, and a lived-in elegance. Every element, from the garden landscaping to the exterior styling, was considered and crafted from conception to final styling, creating a home that feels authentic, layered, and quietly elegant.
